Soon after Buda Folk Band’s album entitled ”Hungarian World Folk Music” was released, it charged to number two on the World Music Charts Europe. The band does not play authentic folk music, but they strive to keep alive the tradition in an urban enviroment. In order to achieve this, they mix dancing, singing, elements of rock, blues, and even jazz music, and they also create their own musical settings.

The Buda Folk Band is a Hungarian folk music ensemble consisting of young city dwellers. They were literally born into folk music, since their parents and teachers belong to the generation which initiated the dance house movement in the mid 1970s. The stimulating effect of home rehearsals and regular field work accompanied their teenage years.
Sándor Csoóri and Péter Éri were important members of Muzsikás folk group for long years.

Their sons, Sándor Csoóri ’Sündi’ and Márton Éri are the parents of Budafolk, and as was the case with their fathers, this creative

new generation is the engine of the band. For this band the presence of authentic folk music in urban culture is a natural phenomenon.

They take motives from other genres and styles of music, and mix them with folk music, thus creating a very particular, and at the same time very colourful blend of music. They call their music ’world folk’ which pun sums up their belief of Hungarian folk music naturally being world music.
